NEW DELHI: In another move to please its sellers, Amazon India will give them an allowance to cover for potential damage in transit. The company said it will pay sellers a fixed percentage of the selling price of every unit shipped.

The move comes just weeks after the India arm of the Seattle-based e-commerce company drew sellers’ flak for increasing its commission. Damage to products during shipping and return process is one of the biggest challenges troubling the country’s fast-growing e-commerce industry.

Sellers on online marketplaces have been complaining of financial losses accompanying damage of merchandise in transit. Until now, sellers had to file claims for the products getting damaged in transit.

“We have introduced damage allowance in ‘Seller Flex’ for certain categories as part of our endeavour to continue providing a good seller experience on this channel,” said an Amazon India spokesperson.

At present, the allowance will be given for products in the apparel, shoes, watches and luggage categories and is applicable to sellers selling via the ‘Seller Flex’ programme.
