Data centres ramp up electricity demand
Electricity consumption of data centres at the global level grew more than three times over 19 years, as per the International Energy Agency, which includes India, upto 2024. Hyperscalers used the most data centre capacity while servers consumed the most electricity. However, US and Europe led in terms of electricity consumption with Asia-Pacific countries excluding China accounting for just about 1 per cent share of electricity demand, below the global average of 1.5 per cent.
