After rolling out exclusively for smartphone users, OpenAI expands its advanced тАШvoice mode,тАЩ for web users. As reported by TechCrunch, the AI company will now allow web users to use its advanced voice mode feature.
Kevin Weil, OpenAIтАЩs Chief product officer, announced about the launch on X (earlier Twitter). In an X post he wrote that OpenAI is expanding ChatGPTтАЩs Advanced Voice Mode feature to the web.

The announcement for the expansion comes after the тАШadvanced voice modeтАЩ made its debut for ChatGPTтАЩs Android and iOS apps in September. So, how does this tool work? Advanced Voice Mode uses OpenAIтАЩs GPT-4oтАЩs in-built audio capabilities. This enables the ChatGPT to execute human-like natural and real-time conversations between it and you. The chatbot can also respond with emotion. Also, it has the potential to understand and respond to non-verbal cues, such as your talking speed, the emotions you speak with.
The voice mode has nine output voices for ChatGPT. Each voice has its own tone and character. You can use them as per your need depending on the scenario of the conversation. So, how to use the feature? HereтАЩs how you can start the feature:
- To start a voice conversation on the web, you need to select the Voice icon on the bottom-right of ChatGPTтАЩs prompt window.
- Next the feature will ask for your permission. You now need to give your browser permission to access your computerтАЩs microphone.This will allow the feature to access your conversation.
- After starting the voice conversation, you will be directed to a screen with a blue orb in the center. Now you are all set to use the тАШadvanced voice mode.тАЩ
Moreover, the expansion of the feature will let you talk to the AI chatbot right from your browser. However, as of now the feature will be available to ChatGPTтАЩs paid users. This means that you need to be a Plus, Enterprise, Teams, or Edu subscriber to access it. The company further added that it will soon roll out the feature free for all users in the coming weeks.
Other updates
In other news, as reported by Bloomberg, OpenAI is working on AI-powered tools for automating complex and time consuming tasks. The feature is expected to come by January 2025. The rumored feature is named тАШOperator.тАЩ This will be launched using OpenAIтАЩs application programming interface. However, initially the feature will be available for developers only.
