Paytm users can now file their Income Tax Returns (ITRs) directly through the app at a starting price of Rs 11. The company has partnered with ClearTax to offer an online ITR filing service that aims to make the process quicker by automatically fetching tax details and selecting the appropriate return form.
The Rs 11 plan is available only on the Paytm app and includes complimentary notice protection, under which, taxpayers can seek assistance from ClearTax if they receive an income tax notice after filing their return.
ITR filing on Paytm starts at Rs 11
Paytm users can access ClearTax’s online tax filing platform from within the app. Tax information is pre-filled using records available with the Income Tax Department, while the relevant ITR form and tax regime are selected automatically, reducing the need for manual data entry.
Paytm and ClearTax said that the service is expected to make the income tax return filing process simpler, particularly for salaried taxpayers, with straightforward tax returns.
How to file income tax return through Paytm app
Step 1: On the Paytm app home page, scroll down to the Free Tools section.
Step 2: Select ‘File your ITR with ClearTax.’
Step 3: Enter your email to receive a one-time password (OTP).
Step 4: Enter the OTP to log in and begin filing.
Capital gains calculation for investors
Taxpayers who have invested in shares or mutual funds can also import their trading data from more than 80 brokerage platforms in a single step.
Once the data is imported, the platform automatically calculates capital gains. According to the companies, if a broker changes the format of its statement, ClearTax’s AI system can identify the change, update the parsing process and continue processing the file without manual intervention.
Notice protection included
Every ITR filed through Paytm, including the Rs 11 plan, comes with complimentary notice protection.
If a taxpayer receives an income tax notice after filing the return, ClearTax will help explain the notice, prepare the response and provide assistance until the matter is resolved.
ITR deadline
The deadline for filing Income Tax Returns (ITRs) for FY 2025-26 is July 31, 2026, and many taxpayers are yet to complete the process. This includes salaried employees, pensioners, students with taxable income and other individuals who are not required to get their accounts audited. Filing your ITR before the due date is important to avoid the consequences of late filing and to ensure faster processing of refunds, wherever applicable.
