It is true that exemptions r inherently biased towards comparatively well off and probably the government is trying to give income tax concessions and at the same time leave surplus with them so that they spend more –but is it likely? Will they spend or save ? [2] and the savers in the economy do contribute to government’s efforts to create a potentially strong economy. [3] fact remains that household financial savings as a percentage of GDP have fallen from 8.1% in FY 20 to 6.5% in FY 23 –whether it will go down further? And whether it is good for the economy?
