The procedure was carried out to verify tax payments made by the two portals, they said.
The ED had in February conducted raids at the premises of Newsclick and its founders under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act in connection with alleged dubious foreign funding of more than ₹30 crore received by its registered company.
The money laundering case was based on a Delhi Police FIR alleging that PPK Newsclick Studio Pvt Ltd received foreign direct investment of ₹9.59 crore from Worldwide Media Holdings LLC USA during the 2018-19 financial year.
The media portals did not provide any comment as of press time Friday. The CBDT did not comment.
The Delhi High Court has granted interim protection from arrest to Newsclick’s editor-in-chief and founder Prabir Purkayastha.
