- commerce minister Nirmala Sitharaman has been assigned Madurai in Tamil Nadu (her native state) and Vijaywada in Andhra Pradesh. Social justice and empowerment minister Thaawar Chand Gehlot would go to Indore in Madhya Pradesh (his native state). Tribal affairs minister Jual Oram would travel in Odisha. Home Minister Rajnath Singh, however, would not travel because of his fractured leg.
- Information and Broadcasting minister M Venkaiah Naidu has written to all ministers asking them to interact with chartered accountants, chambers of commerce and industry and consumers and clear all apprehensions. The ministers have been given a toolkit, which includes a note on GST, possible questions and answers and ideas on types of interactions to hold.
- The government has appointed nodal officers on GST in each state and the ministers have been asked to take the officers along in all interactions to address any technical points raised. “Now that GST has kicked in, it becomes our responsibility to see that it is implemented properly and transformation of tax administration is smooth and efficient.
