The Income Tax (I-T) Department has rolled out a revamped e-filing portal to support the shift to the new Income-ax Act, 2025. These changes aim to make tax filing and e-payments smoother for taxpayers as India transitions from the existing Income Tax Act, 1961, to the new income tax framework.

The latest update allows taxpayers to make payments under both the old and new income tax laws from a single platform. Along with this, new income tax forms and challans have also been introduced on the portal to align with the upcoming Income Tax Rules, 2026.
Forms applicable for Assessment Year 2026–27 are available under “Forms as per Income-tax Act, 1961” on the e-Filing portal from April 1, 2026. However, Form No. 105, earlier Form No.10AB (for the permanent registration of trust) will be available shortly.

New integrated payment module
With the new option, taxpayers can conveniently make payments under the Income‑tax Act, 1961, for dues up to FY 2025‑26, as well as under the Income‑tax Act, 2025, for Tax Year 2026‑27 onwards all from a single interface.
New income tax forms introduced on the portal
To support the transition to the Income Tax Rules, 2026, new income tax forms have been made available on the e-filing portal.

Step 1: Go to e-File
Step 2: Select Income Tax Forms
Step 3: Click on File Income Tax Forms
Step 4: Choose Forms under Income Tax Act, 2025
Step 5: Select the applicable form
Taxpayers can also refer to the Form Navigator and Notification No. 22/2026 issued by the Income Tax Department for detailed guidance on the newly introduced forms.
New challans made live from April 1, 2026
The Income Tax Department has also introduced new challans to facilitate payments under the Income-ax Act, 2025. Starting April 1, 2026, these challans have been made available on the e-filing portal.

Step 2: Click on e-Pay Tax
Step 3: Select Income Tax Act, 2025
Step 4: Click on New Payment
Step 5: Choose the applicable payment option
For tax payments made for the 2026–27 tax year or later, the Income-ax Act, 2025, will be applicable. The Income Tax Act, 1961, will be applicable for payments that pertain to periods prior to Tax Year 2026–27, specifically AY 2026–27 or earlier.
