Chartered Accountants may soon find relief not in balance sheets but in breathing exercises.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s Art of Living (TAOL), promising “peace of mind, clarity of thought and emotional resilience” to CAs and CA students through specially curated sessions.

The tie-up, inked by ICAI’s Committee on Promoting Work-Life Balance, is aimed at “overall personality development” and the infusion of values, ethics and moral education, an assurance that might come as comfort in a profession better known for deadlines than downtime.

Explaining the rationale, ICAI President Charanjot Singh Nanda said the evolving professional landscape now demands a balance between technical excellence and personal wellness. The partnership, he noted, would help CAs and students manage academic and professional pressures while sustaining inner peace, an ambitious proposition in a field where even lunch breaks are negotiable.

TAOL’s Director (Programs) Rajeev Nambiar said the initiative would involve special sessions for working professionals and students, likely two hours spread over two days, offering a compact route to calm amid audit season.

According to TAOL’s website, the organisation operates in 182 countries and is guided by Sri Sri’s philosophy that a stress-free mind and a violence-free society are prerequisites for world peace, with programmes designed to reduce stress and improve mental health. ICAI, for its part, said the MoU underlines its commitment to producing not just technically competent accountants but socially responsible nation-builders rooted in integrity and ethical values. The collaboration, it added, would integrate wellness, stress management and inner development into the professional ecosystem.

The agreement builds on a dedicated Committee on Promoting Work–Life Balance set up by ICAI on February 12, 2025, to help professionals pause, rejuvenate and pursue well-being in an increasingly demanding work environment. Whether inner peace can be achieved between tax audits and regulatory filings remains to be seen—but for now, ICAI members can look forward to balancing more than just their books.
