‘Will wait until Personal Data Protection law comes’

WhatsApp has told the Centre that it will continue with its new privacy rules until the Personal Data Protection Bill comes into effect.

The messaging app has, however, said that it will not limit the functionality of how WhatsApp works in the coming weeks and will continue to remind users from time to time about the update as well as when people choose to use relevant optional features, like communicating with a business that is receiving support from Facebook.

The development comes after Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology last week directed the company to take back its new privacy policy. The spokesperson, meanwhile, added that “We will maintain this approach until at least the forthcoming Personal Data Protection law comes into effect.”
